It's your responsibility to have the receipt with you when returning the merchandise back. You get day's to return. Macy's does it and many more stores.

Homegoods - Lousy service

FRIDAY NIGHT WEEK AND A HALF BEFORE Christmas. Only two cashiers and then one left with more than 15 people in line. Waited ten minutes line did not move and no one was calling for more cashiers. Dropped my items on shelf and walked out. Poor management
